Tooele Real Estate
A steadily growing small city, Tooele is the main population center for sparsely inhabited Tooele County, and is located about 30 miles southwest of Salt Lake City in one of Utah's emblematic dry valleys. The city borders the western slopes of the Oquirrh Mountains, and is known for its abundance of easily accessible camping and hiking spots. In a part of Utah where vast stretches of open space are right out your front door, Tooele real estate offers comfortable residential living and a lively community atmosphere.
Tooele (pronounced too-will-uh), is thought to have taken its unusual name from an old Ute Indian word for tumbleweed, although this unverified explanation competes with several others. The area was originally inhabited by Goshute Indians, and became an agricultural center with its own city corporation in the 1850s, after Mormons settled the area. Many descendants of Tooele's first non-native settlers still live in the city today, making the character and historical charm of the place that much more authentic.

Tooele prospered with the establishment of nearby military bases during World War II, and is still home to hundreds of military-related workers, at Tooele Army Depot. Many public sector workers also live in Tooele, which is the government seat for Utah's second largest county, Tooele County.
